Maple Lodge Farms Southern Ontario operations consumed approximately 1 million kilograms of caustic soda annually for the treatment of wastewater effluent from their poultry processing operation. A trial was done to replace caustic soda with lime slurry and due to the success of the trial, a permanent lime dosing system was installed. Consumption of lime slurry is similar to that of caustic soda, but due to the increased price of caustic, they now save six figures annually.
